Spring Election FAQ's

Your Vote Matters

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR THE SPRING ELECTION ON APRIL 2, 2024

  1. WHEN IS EARLY VOTING?
Early "Absentee" Voting begins Tuesday, March 19th and runs through Friday, March 29th.  There is no voting on Monday, April 1st.

  2. WHY MUST I CHOOSE A PARTY IN THE PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE RACE?
The presidential race is a primary where the results help to narrow the number of candidates for a given party.  You must chose only one party and pick only one candidate for that party.

  3. IF I PICK DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH PARTY THE LOCAL CANDIDATES REPRESENT?
Local races such as County Supervisor, Mayor or Alderman are NON-PARTISAN races.  There is no party affiliation for these races.

  4. WHAT PARTY DO THE CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR REPRESENT?
Again, this contest is a non-partisan race.

  5. WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE MAYORAL CANDIDATES?
The Clerk's Office is of the understanding that the Dodgeville Chronicle will be running an article about local candidates the week of March 21st.  You can also follow candidates on their social media accounts or reach out directly to them to learn more information.

  6. CAN I STILL REGISTER TO VOTE?
If you moved prior to March 5th, you can still register to vote for the Spring Election at your new address.  However, because we are so close to the election, at this point all registrations must occur in person at the Clerk's Office (City Hall, 100 E Fountain St).  If you moved after March 5th, you'll want to use your former address for voting on April 2nd.

  7. CAN I STILL REQUEST ABSENTEES BY MAIL?
Yes.  We recommend making those requests ASAP so there is time to mail and return those ballots.   Using MyVote is the quickest way to make this request.

  8. CAN I USE THE DROPBOX TO RETURN ABSENTEE BALLOTS?
While this seems to change monthly, using the Dropbox at City Hall at this time is currently considered illegal.  Please use the pre-stamped absentee envelope or return your ballot in person.

  9. WHAT ARE VOTING HOURS ON ELECTION DAY?
Voting Hours on Tuesday, April 2nd are from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM

  10. WHAT DO THE TWO STATEWIDE REFERENDUM QUESTIONS MEAN?
Please see the "Notice of Referendum" listed below.  Page 2 provides an explanation of the two statewide questions.
